2010

'Celebrating and Inspiring'

Celebrated from 1-7 June each year, the Week was a chance for you to focus on your volunteers, celebrating the contribution that they make to your organisations. This year's theme was "Celebrating and Inspiring", when we hoped to draw attention to volunteering by using inspirational role models within the community to show the amazing experiences that can come about through volunteering.

Volunteers Week 2010 Report

Here are a few events..

 Pub Quiz 02/06/2010

Eighty-five people attended our annual pub quiz, representing 12 organisations. Teams were a mix of staff and volunteers. We had 2 volunteers supporting the event – helping with photos, setting up and clearing away. Everyone enjoyed a free sausage & chips supper, involvement in the quiz and cash prizes for the winners.
Winners of the Quiz were: 1st prize - St Andrew’s Children’s Hospice, 2nd Prize – LEAP, 3rd Prize – Lincoln Mind.

Abbey Games Community Sports event 04/06/2010

Around 50 young people and parents attended the event in the Arboretum in Abbey Ward, an area in Lincoln which suffers from community tensions and with a large Eastern European population. VCS Lincoln worked in partnership with the City of Lincoln Council’s Sports Development Team, Abbey Neighbourhood Team and local Police, to provide volunteers for a fun day of sport for the local youngsters during Volunteers’ Week and looking ahead to the 2012 Olympics. We had a small feature in the Lincolnshire Echo on 11/06/2010.

We had 8 volunteers helping out on the day, doing a mix of tasks, including: setting up equipment and sports pitch, overseeing events, scoring and general support. The VCS Lincoln staff team also supported the event during the morning. All volunteers went away with a T-shirt, certificate and bag, as a thank-you. Volunteers were a mix of DWP clients and prospective volunteers who were keen to try a volunteering taster before committing to anything longer term. We have a number of case studies and more comments still to come in.

VCS Lincoln Volunteer Team meal 04/06/2010

We celebrated Volunteers Week with 8 of our own volunteers who all received thank-you cards and a VE Volunteers’ Week silver plated badge. We are currently collecting case studies on their involvement with us in recent years.
